Chairman Wontumi, has denied reports saying he is involved in illegal mining.
Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has denied reports he is involved in illegal mining.
According to Chairman Wontumi, he actually attended the prestigious Prempeh College and revealed that he is not illiterate as been peddled around.
Chairman Wontumi said he completed in 1996 and was popularly known among his mates as Benghazi. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman for the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Boasiako has revealed that he started building his wealth at a young age, insisting he owns “about 100” houses in Kumasi. He built his first 25-bedroom house while he was just 22 years.
Mr. Boasiako also replied to voices saying that he is involved in illegal mining, saying, “I want to inform the public that I am not into galamsey.”
“I have a large scale company which Akonta mining is under… All the required documents I have, I will make all available,” he said.
Akonta Mining Company Limited was said to have been operating unlawfully in the Nimri Tano forest reserve in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.
According to the government, while the mining company has a lease to undertake mining operations in some parts of Samreboi, the company has no mineral right to undertake any mining operations in the Tano Nimiri forest reserve. Speaking on Wontumi TV on Monday, October 3, Chairman Wontumi said he is ready to make the document available.
“I am appealing to them to use the law. They should do their investigations, and we should let the law work.”
“I have a large scale company which Akonta mining is under… All the required documents I have, I will make all available[sic],” he added.
